Property for sale in South Mallorca (Majorca)

The Southern section of the island has many contrasts.  It stretches from the flat plains of lower central Mallorca to the rugged coast of the south and is a mixture of charming mediaeval towns and brand new developments.  There is also variety along the coastline: ranging from holiday beach destinations to secluded rocky bays where visitors can lose themselves in solitude.  This part of Mallorca (near Palma) owes its recent revival to the newly built developments and golf courses here.  Most development has been finished to a high standard, with consideration for the environment, and there is plenty of opportunity for good investment.

The main towns in the South of Mallorca:

  • Porreres/Campos del Puerto: are two rural towns which lie in the flat plains of southern central Mallorca.  Many mediaeval features have been preserved in these sleepy villages, such as the small yet dignified local churches and hermitages, yet they are also keen to look to the future and the councils have invested heavily in Agro tourism (small private hotels forming part of farms/former working farms). .These towns are known for producing wonderful wines and rich almonds.
  • Llucmajor: is also located on the flat plains of central southern Mallorca and is the administrative capital of the largest agricultural district on the Island.  In its more recent history the area has been noted for its shoemaking (a monument in celebration can be seen in the town centre) but this settlement actually dates back to prehistoric times and a preserved Tailot is found on the outskirts.  Llucmajor is also home to a fine golf course.
  • Ses Salines: The small village of Ses Salines is named after the salt plains which lie to its South and upon which the village depends for trade.  The Cape here is fairly rocky, with lots of little islets, but there are many sandy virgin beaches in the area which remain quiet all year round.
  • Maioris: is a brand new development only 30 minutes from Palma.  It has many amenities (including its very own 18 hole golf course, due to open in 2006), and is still expanding, changing and adapting as the community grows.  The area offers modern and stylish living in small and friendly communities.
  • Cala Pí: One of the hundreds of small ‘Calas’ (bays) with steep rocky surrounds which stretch enticingly out towards the sea.  Cala Pí is a secluded, almost private, beach and natural harbour for small fishing boats and has fine, golden sands and clear blue waters.  The views from the cliff top village are spectacular.  This area is developing rapidly yet tastefully, due to the nearby Maioris development and Golf Course.
  • S’Arenal/Ca’n Pastilla: It would be wrong to attempt to write anything about the Island of Mallorca without giving some time to the thriving tourist hotspots which bring most people here in the first place, and S’Arenal and Ca’n Pastilla are some of the most famous, along with Magaluf.  With streets bursting with life all year round, it’s a holidaymaker’s paradise as bars, restaurants, hotels and nightclubs pack the front strip and run alongside the gloriously sandy and safe beach.  The towns themselves revolve around tourism and the whole of this section of coastline is an almost continuous holiday resort.
